Frequently Asked Questions
1. WILL IT COST ME OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE TO STAY AT ALTUS AFB CRASH PAD?
No. We will not charge more than you are allotted whether it be a Non- A Rate or On-Base Lodging Rate. No out of expenses for you. Period.
2. WHY STAY IN A CRASH PAD vs ON-BASE or A HOTEL?
As a KC-135 Pilot I have stayed in my fair share of hotels. In an extended stay for training, there is no comparison for having the ability to cook whenever you want. The access to a full refrigerator is priceless. Eating out is great, and our crash pad is super close to most of the restaurants available in Altus, but it gets old. Plus you get all the perks of a hotel with cleaning service bi-weekly and lawn care, but the benefit of living in a home. You can read about all the perks our crash pad offers here (including Direct TV in every room, fastest speed internet, kitchen with every appliance, etc.).
3. IS IT FAR FROM BASE? I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE TIME IT WILL TAKE AND AM THINKING ABOUT STAYING ON BASE.
Altus AFB Crash Pad is so incredibly close to base. See our location here- it is 2.5 miles away. It literally takes 5 minutes to get to work. The commute doesn't get easier than that. Plus it is minutes away from Wal- Mart, restaurants, downtown Altus, the movie theater, etc. Our home was carefully selected based on location. It is in the GOOD/SAFE part of town, without compromising on distance from base or shopping. Win win.
4. IS IT ILLEGAL TO STAY AT A CRASH PAD VS ON- BASE OR HOTEL?
No. According to the JTRs, you are entitled to stay at any location of your choice, whether it be on- base, hotel or at a crash pad. Your commander, base commander, or finance cannot force you to stay on base. That is direct violation of the JTRs.
5. I HAVE A FAMILY- CAN I BRING THEM WITH ME?
At this time we do not have a family crash pad available. We are renting per room only. However if you are the only one in the home and your family wants to visit, we are more than happy to accommodate them. Out of respect for other tenants and safety for kids, we cannot allow family to stay when other tenants are present. If your family comes to stay in a hotel and you stay with them, we will not charge you the days you stay away from our crash pad to stay with your family.
6. I AM MARRIED, WILL I BE STAYING IN A HOME THAT RENTS ROOMS TO MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITE SEX?
No. If a male is already renting a room, we will not rent a room to a female, and vise-versa. We do not discriminate against male or female. It is on a first come, first serve basis.
